Lowe's – First Store to Open in Murphy Marketplace

Joey Scott, store manager, and his friendly staff opened the new Lowe's store in Murphy Marketplace on Monday, July 7th for area contractors. The official opening was held on Thursday at 8 a.m. featuring a “board sawing” ceremony and the Murphy Chamber's traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor Bret Baldwin was given the honor of sawing the board and cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

The Murphy Chamber of Commerce, in addition to their regular luncheon meetings on the third Tuesday of each month, hosts Come & Go Lunches at local restaurants on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

The June 25th Come & Go Lunch was held at Amado's and Eric Langford, Developer of Murphy Marketplace, was there to give an update to 45 chamber members and Murphy residents on the 76 acre, 600,000 sq. foot shopping destination at the corner of FM 544 and North Murphy Road.

Mr. Langford said that Murphy Marketplace is about 85% committed at this point. Lowes will be opening July 7th , Sprouts in October and the stores closest to FM 544 between September and January 1 st .

Kohl's apparently has decided to locate in the new Wylie shopping center with Target, but Mr. Langford said Murphy is winning tenants every day. The proposed movie theatre is no longer a threat/option, depending on where you stood on the issue, since that company's financing fell through. There is a strong possibility, Mr. Langford said, that Murphy will have a Chick-fil-a along with a high-end steak restaurant, a fresh fish restaurant, a restaurant that offers breakfast and another popular fast food establishment. It is a package deal he is currently working on.

The Murphy Chamber purchased a clock for the Marketplace and it will be installed in front of Sprouts. A dedication ceremony will be announced later.

Mr. Langford brought the drawings of Murphy Marketplace with the confirmed tenants noted.
