Chamber Awards 2007 Scholarships
The Murphy Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contact Jon Lashbrook or Bob Russell to learn how you can donate to this worthy cause, or to find out how to apply to the scholarship grant program.
To compete in a career, students increasingly need skills obtained from higher education. The Murphy Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to selected students from Wylie and Plano ISD's to assist with tuition costs.
Committees from each of the school districts meet in early spring to consider the applications from students who plan to continue their education. Those who meet the criteria are submitted to the directors of the Foundation for approval.
The scholarship is granted at a meeting of the entire Chamber, where the student is introduced. When the student has matriculated, the scholarship amount is deposited to the student's account with the bursar at the school.
Scholarships for 2007 were each in the amount of $1500. This money comes from business and individual donations, auctiona at the monthly luncheon of items donated by area businesses, and other fundraising activities by the chamber. As the scholarships become better known and the chamber able to fund more and larger grants, we hope to expand the program to more students and a larger fraction of their first year tuition and fees.
We are proud of the Chamber for enabling these grants, and of these students for meeting the criteria for selection.
